Better Design FMEA with Boundary Diagrams

Boundary diagrams have grown fabulously in favor as a result of the AIAG/VDA FMEA method description. Once started, they almost always become the everyday tool of experts.

Strong visualization of the system, clear identification and categorization of interfaces (exchange of signals, energies, materials,..). As a "whitebox", boundary diagrams also represent the inherent subsystems.

Thus, they are the basis for planning in step 1 (planning and preparation). For step 2 (structural analysis), they represent two levels and complement each other with the system's structure tree. And last but not least, we combine the boundary diagrams with the interface function matrix. Thus, the diagrams still provide a strong input for step 3 (function analysis).

The "Swiss army knife" for the FMEA moderator is now on the table.
