Harmonized FMEA method description

The joint FMEA method description by AIAG and VDA pursues the goal of creating a coordinated and synchronous method application in all areas of the automotive industry for the two associations AIAG and VDA and their members.

The FMEA Handbook from AIAG and VDA is the result of a more than three-year collaboration between members of the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), consisting of OEMs and suppliers. It is not considered to be a norm or technical standard, but rather as a generally valid FMEA method description.

A new method, the Supplemental FMEA for Monitoring and System Response (FMEA-MSR), was additionally introduced. It is used to analyze diagnostic detection and failure minimization in customer operation with the aim of achieving a secured status and/or fulfilling the statutory and official specifications.
