ISO 26262

ISO 26262 “Road vehicles - Functional safety” The standard ISO 26262 defines requirements on the functional safety of electrical and electronic systems for road vehicles. The application of the stated standards results in corresponding safety evidence to document conformity with the requirements.

The “Second Edition” of ISO 26262 has been available since December 2018. This version of the standard now contains 12 parts. The question is to what extent this standard is also valid for artificial intelligence, which is increasingly being used in the automotive sector, or how it can be applied. However, on the other hand, the safety of artificial intelligence is considered an independent field of research.

ISO 26262:2018 has twelve parts, which cover the following content:

Part 1: Vocabulary
Part 2: Management of functional safety
Part 3: Concept phase
Part 4: Product development: System level
Part 5: Product development: Hardware level
Part 6: Product development: Software level
Part 7: Production, operation, service, and decommissioning
Part 8: Supporting processes
Part 9: ASIL-oriented and safety-oriented analyses
Part 10: Guidelines (only for information)
Part 11: Guidelines on application of ISO 26262 to semiconductors
Part 12: Adaptation of ISO 26262 for motorbikes
